Martin holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Western Australia and graduated from the Australian Institute of Company Directors.   He is co-director of his consulting firm, Mileham Pty Ltd, specialising in providing high-level specialist consulting, governance, design and approvals advice in the public and private sectors.

Early in his post-graduate career he became an Associate Director of a prominent Perth Architectural practice, and after several years practice and the delivery of major Perth projects, he moved to London where he worked in major retail design and from where he moved to Oman, then to Brunei Darussalam, then Melbourne, and the UAE; ultimately being headhunted to return to Perth, as Executive Director Strategy, Policy and Projects for the State Government, in 2012.    He was later appointed Director of Planning and then Chief Executive Officer of the City of Perth.

Martin has lived or delivered consulting in Perth, London, Dubai, Moscow, Shanghai, Singapore, Mumbai, Johor Bahru, Bandar Seri Begawan and Melbourne, to name a few.

While in Dubai, Martin was Vice President Operations responsible for one of the most reputable consulting firms in the region, NORR Group Consultants International; the last project for which the firm was responsible, as ‘Architect of Record’ while he was VP, was the Burj Khalifa. While in Dubai and seconded to Nakheel, Martin oversaw reclamation and hotel components of “The Palm Jumeirah”.

NORR also delivered the 1700 key “Atlantis” resort and Waterpark on The Palm Jumeirah.  The projects were the largest of their type at the time.  Over ten years while Martin resided in the UAE, NORR also designed and construction managed major high-rise bank, hotel and residential projects in the UAE, Russia and beyond.

In his pro-bono work, Martin sits on the Boards of Management of the East Perth Football Club Inc (a semi-pro AFL Football team based in Perth) and the Hillarys Yacht Club Inc (the premier private members’ Yacht Club on the West Australian Coast).  Martin has strong business ownership, management and business turn-around experience and, having run his own business for nearly a decade he is vitally aware of the necessity of “getting it right” and being “agile” when it comes to time management, cash flow and investment.

From his wide experience, Martin has become acutely aware that teams succeed when they work collaboratively and that money alone cannot “fix” everything; one needs commitment, support, teamwork and negotiation skills to thrive in an ever more complex and competitive environment.
